Have you ever wondered how to make coconut oil? I can remember the first time I heard about it, I was really surprised. But actually after doing some more research I found out that this kind of oil is extracted from the meat of coconuts. It is a very healthy oil which is high in saturated fats and it is also a very good source of protein. I am going to tell you how to make coconut milk so that you will know how to make coconut oil on your own.
The coconuts are harvested and dried when they are still green. The oil extracted from mature coconuts is called “coconut milk”. To make it easier for you, I am going to assume that you have access to mature coconuts and this is the best way to get it. You will need a blender as well as a strainer. These are only required for a short period of time to prepare the oil.
The first step in how to make coconut oil is to take about one cup of the coconut milk and put it into a blender. Put the blender into a pot or something similar and turn on the power. Blend the milk until it becomes a thick consistency. Now you should notice that there will be more milk that will flow out of the bottle than what came in.
Now take about two tablespoons of the coconut milk and put it into another clean measuring cup and add about a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Mix them up well. Next you want to add about four tablespoons of the shredded coconut and blend it well. This mixture will be very runny. This is what we want!
Now take about one tablespoon of the coconut milk that you made earlier, and place it into a mesh strainer over a bowl. Now take about two cups of the browned coconut oil and put it into a sauce pan over medium heat. Bring the water to a boil and place in your strainer. Turn the burner off once you have the coconut milk at the boiling point.
Now take your immersion blender and turn on the power and blend the milk and oil until it gets to be a smooth consistency. You can do this in a single shot or in small batches. After it has been blended well you can use heat resistant surfaces like wooden bowls and hotplates to strain it into. Do not use heat transfer items to strain it as the liquid will be much thicker after being strained.
The next step is to take about three tablespoons of the shredded coconut meat and put it into a mixing bowl. Using an immersion blender or a food processor, blend it up until it reaches a creamy consistency. This is actually easier if you use heat. Next you want to add your second egg along with the brown sugar and vanilla to the coconut meat mixture. Blend all of these ingredients together until they are completely combined and your mixture will now be ready for baking.
In order to avoid burning your food, set your oven to low heat and gently transfer the mixture to a large pan. Use a cookie cutter or a tablespoon to round out the shape of the cookies. Cook your cookies on low for about 4 minutes and then turn them out onto a cooling rack. When you’re done, remove your cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on a cooling rack, removing any excess chocolate from the cookies.
